Where is my mind?

Photoshop

In today's lesson of media and technology, we have got introduced to the graphics editing program Adobe Photoshop. At the first place we had to get acquainted/accustomed with the interface of the editor, learn to use variety of tools and to obtain the necessary information on how to continue working and improve our knowledge in Photoshop. Our task was to create a surreal looking album cover with the title 'Where is my mind?' using several images, texts and layers. In this post I will explicate the steps and tools that I have used to create the final visual image.

Step 1: Creating a document.
The first step after getting accustomed with the program is to create a new document in specific format and options to make a printable album cover. It is important to ensure it aligns with the main idea and provides a solid foundation to the project.

Step 2: Adding images, layers and resizing.
In the dowloaded folder with the needed images drag it from the folder to the workspace. After, it is necessary to drag the 'Wizard of Oz' image to the bottom of the screen and press enter. Then, a new layer has to appear above the background that has been used before, using trying the hiding/ showing the layer icon. Within the option 'Resterize Layer' choose the layer that is in the wrong format to turn it into the standard size.

Step 3: Enhancing colors and contrast.
To make the image pop, use the settings to open the Adjustment panel selecting the image. Tools like Brightness/Contrast, Vibrance, Hue/Saturation allows to play around and fine-tune the colors and contrast. Try it out and experiment with these settings until achieving the desired result.

Step 4: Replacing the image.
In this step, it is needed to remove the previous sky from the image by replacing it with a new photo of the sky, using the Magic Wand Tool by clicking on the needed sections of the sky and deleting selected areas. Using the marquee tool you can select some small bits of the area and delete, to make it more helpful and delete the sky.

Step 5: Sky image.
By complete the similar steps with the sky image it will appear above the Oz layer. Using the Free-Transform option will make the needed image transformable and easier to arrange. After, playing with the color/contrast settings, you will achieve desired look.

Step 6: Robot image.
Same steps are needed to be taken with the robots image. Rasterize Layer > Magic Wand Tool > Free Transform Tool to resize the robot and place it in the background. Modifying their colors and contrast as well.

Step 7: Title.
Using the Text Tool from the toolbar, type the the words for the title. By selecting the same tool you can make changes to the text and then place it to a suitable position for the design. Lastly, save the work!

In conclusion, this lesson gave me an excellent opportunity to experience myself in Photoshop, to experiment with various tools, images and different settings. It requires careful selection, precise cropping, color improvements and creative ideas to create captivating image in Photoshop, which is what I look forward achieving in the future and with experience!
