"Coraline" review

Review of a wonderland animation "Coraline"

"Coraline" is a film by Henry Selick, based on the book by Neil Gaiman. It is a captivating stop-motion animation film that skillfully combines dark fantasy and whimsical storytelling. The careful attention to the detail in animation brings Neil Gaiman's dark narrative to life, creating a visually appealing and atmospheric world. Moreover, The film's strong character development, especially with Coraline herself, adds depth to the story. "Coraline" is a beautifully crafted, haunting adventure that appeals to both children and adults alike.

The plot revolves around a young girl named Coraline Jones who discovers a parallel world with alternate versions of her parents. In this eerie realm, she encounters an Other Mother with buttons for eyes, who initially seems perfect but hides a sinister secret.
Coraline must confront her fears and navigate a chilling adventure to rescue her real parents and escape the Other Mother's deceptive world. The story weaves elements of fantasy and horror with themes of bravery and self-discovery. A hauntingly beautiful soundtrack complements the film's unique blend of magic and unpredictability, enhancing the overall immersive experience. There are endless imaginative twists and turns in plot and exploration of Coraline's journey into a parallel world that keep viewers on their toes. Additionally, the sense behind thematic depth, touching on desire for escapism and the importance of appreciating one’s reality adds a layer of maturity to the film.

This animation and story has a special place in my heart. I have watched this since i was younger and I still rewatch it from time to time, and every time I discover more meaning in all the details in film when watching it. I have always admired the main character herself, with her courage and determination in the most diffucult moments, she was and remains a role model to me. Also, this film taught me a lot, which is what the film's slogan "Be careful what you wish for". I think this is a meaningful reminder to children and adults that getting what you desire may not always lead to positive outcomes. Overall, I find this story as the contemporary and dark version of "Alice in Wonderland", leaving a lasting imprssion with its atmosphere and storytelling.
